I have got to say that this book is pretty damn interesting and very useful if you are enrolled at Sac State and are taking CPE 144. Otherwise, you might as well not bother to look at it.

Paid for Itself in Spades

This book is exactly what I was looking. I was not looking for a book on investing, that's what my $70k worth of Finance and Accounting degrees provided. I wanted a book that helped me understand the market and trading better, and this book did very well for me. In fact, it still does well for me.

I finally hit my minimum balance and started conservatively trading away using all of the techniques I could remember. I had a solid exit and entrance strategy, stuck to the 2% loss rule, and avoided the fear/greed aspect of trading. The markets are definitely not easy to read, but this book gives you just enough confidence to navigate the many, many nuances of the trading world. For a complete beginner, I feel so much more confident and have been able to spot the start of a trend almost immediately.

If you are looking for a book on investments, you need to go elsewhere. This is a book on day trading.

Great Primer for Trading Technique

I'm a new day trader and have been taking various courses for over a year. I found this book filled many knowledge gaps for me. For example, it explains the daily schedule of the market; what indicators to use when and why, and explained them in simple terms. I did not know for example that some indicators are better for swing trades and others for momentum trades, etc. She covered basic charting patterns that are essential to trading and offered good advice for entries, stop losses, and targets. I think this is great primer for trading technique.

Some one-star reviewers said she focuses on stocks, which is true, but I think futures, options, and forex were beyond the scope of this beginner book. Yes, she also focuses on swing trading, which is not really day trading, so I can see the reviewers' issues with that, but over all I think this is a terrific book for the beginner. BTW, she was a real trader and not just a journalist turned author as some one-star reviewers suggest.

Great Book for Traders or Investors

I have been following the stock market for over 30 years and have read well over 100 books on investing (although this was the first on trading). I decided to read this book not because I am thinking about trying day trading, but just out of a great interest in the subject. It may sound strange, but this was the first book I have ever read that went into detail about candle stick charts. I have seen these charts for years, but never really knew how to read them. That alone made this book worth reading to me. The author does a wonderful job of explaining these charts, along with several other tools.

If you are thinking about day trading as a profession, or if you are already doing that but want to continue learning new ideas, then this is a great starting point. It is well written in an easy to read style. Also, each chapter ends with quizzes that allow you to test how well you are retaining the information you just read. I loved that and found that I was fairly good at answering those questions.

If you are an investor interesting in learning more about the nuts and bolts of the stock market, this is also a good starting point for you, because Ms Turner does a great job of explaining in detail how the stock market works. Just remember, this book was written specifically for short term trading, so while much of the material does apply to long term investments, not all of it will.

Very comprehensive and well written textbook for the care of patients with arthritis. Particularly liked the content that reviewed why foot problems can actually be occurring earlier than hand problems that might be more visible to a non-foot specialist clinician. This book would be useful for podiatrists or pedorthists that need a clinical resource to share with rheumatologists or primary care physicians about how as foot care or footwear specialists they can help patients with arthritis improve the quality of their lives.

Amazing storytelling and art work.

The Read Aloud Bible Story series is amazing. If you don't own these and you teach Bible class or have young children, you need the whole set. It is money well spent. I've had these for over 20 years and have used them multiple times. You can tell that the author is a person who has told Bible stories to young children for years. The artwork to go along with the stories is wonderful. Perfect for preschoolers, but even elementary aged children will be engaged with a wonderfully told story.

We have the first four volumes, and they're wonderful, both as read-to stories for little ones and first readers for those who are learning to read. This volume is very different; the stories are in more stilted language and don't make quite as much sense. I was quite disappointed with this volume, but I would highly recommend the first four volumes for kids ages 2-8 (even my 10- and 12-year old enjoy them!)

Purchased this book along with the other volumes. I was not sure how my children would take to the books. To my surprise they gravitated to them on the first reading. The size of the book (12in. x 8in.) along with the colorful pages give appeal to the little ones. The biblical messages are geared to toddlers simple yet effective. I recommend this series. Well worth the purchase.

An Honest Story

I recently read all the the reviews of the Trapp Family Singers, which I have also read. One of the recurring criticisms of the book is that it paints a dishonest picture or too rosy a picture of Maria and the Trapp family (This book was written in the late 40's or early 50's.) Several reviewers mentioned the recent story on the TV series, Biography, which told what they felt was the "real story." Well, it's a shame that the book, Maria, is now out of print. This book was published in 1972, and Maria is much more honest about her sad childhood, and she does not leave out many unflattering pictures of herself. She also tells about her time of atheism and how she came back to her faith. One part of the book details how "blazing mad" she was with God after she married the Baron, and felt that God had "rejected" her as His bride. In another part she details her deep guilt after her husband's death, since she felt that in many ways she had made his life miserable by her "terrible temper"--she makes it clear that the Captain was the quiet and gentle parent in the family, and also discusses how much she disliked the fact that the "Sound of Music" portrayed him as a stern disciplinarian. Maria also tells how much trouble she had letting go of "control" of the family business and how she feels she made mistakes as both a wife, mother, and grandmother. So, you see, Biography's "expose" really had to come, at least somewhat, from Maria's own words. The only reason I didn't give the book five stars is that, at times, the writing is a little hard follow in that it jumps around. However, I did get the feeling that Maria was talking and reminiscing, which is part of the reason for the "jumpiness." Maria's earlier book was written in a different time when people didn't reveal as much about themselves as they do now. The later book is not a "tell all" but strikes a good balance in that I think Maria genuinely wanted to let people see her strengths and weaknesses and what God could do with such a flawed and imperfect individual.

Delightful Story

We have loved the Von Trapp Family for years and read about parts of their life, knowing Maria had a great part in their story. I heard the family sing in the '50's at a small college here in my neighborhood and remember their quaint costumes and unusual songs. Wanting to read more of Maria's story I searced on Amazzon. What a joy to read the book. It came in great condition in a shorter length of time than expected. It's a story for everybody and you will be surprised at Maria's beginnings as a school girl! What a hoot! And what a delight to read "the rest of the story!"

Maria von Trapp: A Portrait in Self-Contradiction

How do you know when Maria von Trapp is not lying? It is simple. When her lips are not moving. In her first book, written in 1949, she tells of the time she met the Captain and the children for the first time. She describes a scene that is very similar to the scene in the play and in the movie. She even mentions that the Captain used a whistle to call the children.
In this book, she states that the Captain was not at home when she arrived, and that Baroness Matilda introduced the children to her.
Hoping that no one will notice her contradictory lies, she blames the producers of the play for (falsely) portraying her husband as a stern disciplinarian. Well, give me a break. It was her 1949 book, telling of the whistle, that gave them the idea. There is also a chapter in the 1949 book about "the baron doesn't want it."
So, she invents the story, and then blames us for believing it.
